Lake Royale was formerly part of the Seven Paths farming community. The land along the banks of Cypress Creek was cleared, a dam constructed, and thus the beginning of Lake Sagamore ( now called Lake Royale ).

The Property Owners Association (POA) built their administration building at the entrance to the lake, shortly thereafter. Lake Royale offered a year round recreation program, such as dances, dinners, children's activities and socials.

Located on the waterfront, the clubhouse serves the community as a recreation center with a beach area, dock and picnic area. The pavilion (on the east side of the lake) has another beach, a sheltered picnic area, a miniature golf course, rest rooms, and a boat ramp.

Other amenities include: a swimming pool, tennis and basketball courts, boating access, horseshoe pits, shuffleboard courts and a privately owned 18 hole golf course with property owner privileges.

The Lake is man-made. Approximately 250’ above sea level, it consists of 345 acres, with a length of 3.25 miles and a maximum lake depth of 30’. The shoreline is about 13 miles long. The main road around the lake is Sagamore Drive, which is 9.75 miles. There are over 60 miles of roads, a 1,200 foot dam, and a 288 foot concrete spillway.

The overall property of the community is about 3,000 acres which completely surrounds the lake. The lake is fed by Cypress Creek and numerous springs. Presently, there are over 1,000 residential structures, about 3,500 residential parcels and 2,500 camping parcels.
